Android, iOS and Windows Phone are the most well-known mobile operating systems and they are widely used around the world. Earlier this year, Ubuntu Phone and Ubuntu Tablet had been introduced by Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu.
This Monday, Helsinki-based Jolla unveiled its first smartphone which will be the first handset to run the company’s Sailfish OS. The two-year-old smartphone developer will name its inaugural phone “Jolla”.
Jolla will have a 4.5-inch display of unknown resolution and will be powered by a dual-core processor, packing 16GB of integrated storage which can be expanded via microSD card. The Jolla smartphone will support 4G LTE, pack an 8-megapixel rear camera and a replaceable battery.

Designed to look like two slabs that have been bonded together, the smartphone can be bought with a range of colourful cases that the phone will recognise, changing the visual theme accordingly.
The smartphone is also buttonless, which means that returning to the homescreen, searching for content and multitasking is all controlled via onscreen swipes and gestures, just like Ubuntu Phone/Tablet.
The smartphone will cost “no more than” €399 (roughly $513), with expected availability at the end of 2013, especially if consumers sign up to the Jolla Movement.
