Unsolved Mystery: Nazca Lines

Today I am going to post another famous mystery which is Nazca Lines.
This is the bird sign that appeared in anime 'Level E', which reminds me that it is actually one of the Nazca Lines.

So this is the bird sign Nazca Line that I mentioned above.

Hmm, anime producers really did some research and homework for their anime. So what is Nazca Line? Here we go...

Nazca is a small city in Peru some 200 miles south of Lima on the Pacific coast. In the Peruvian desert near the city, there is an extensive plain between the Inca and Nazca valleys. This huge, flat pampa is the site of the world-famous Nazca Lines which are a series of ancient geoglyphs in the desert. Scholars believe the Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca culture between 400 and 650 AD. The hundreds of individual figures range in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fish, sharks, orcas, llamas, and lizards. The largest figures are over 200 metres (660 ft) across. This outstanding geometric ground form remained undiscovered until the early 1930s when it was noticed by the first aerial flights over the area during aerial survey work to locate water sources.

The Nazca lines are an attractive and amazing feature. Not only are there perfectly straight lines criss-crossing all over the plain like giant, elaborate, airport landing runways, but there are trapezoidal zones, pictures and animals, such as birds and beasts, as well as indistinguishable symbols. The remarkable aspect of these creations of the Nazca culture is that they can only be recognised from high in the air [it doesn't make any sense that the ancient people could make these lines without some form of manned flight to see the figures properly] .

The science fiction writer, Erich von Daniken suggested that they were landing strips for alien spacecraft. However, the geology of the desert floor cannot support this [fairly stupid] theory, as it is soft earth unable to accept the fast moving weight of any sizeable aircraft. Alternative theories had been proposed which include religion, astronomy, agriculture purpose and etc.

So, who made the Nazca Lines? How they made it? What is the purpose of Nazca Line? Ancient religion? Did aliens came from space? Ancient astronomers? Artists with extraordinary opportunities?
Further information and detailed theories could be searched in the internet.
