Paul O’Brien is working on a tool that would allow HTC One users to simply switch between a Sense ROM and a stock Android ROM. Both versions of Android have their own strengths, and O’Brien is making them available into one package gives users the best of both worlds.
The best part about the tool is the fact that the two ROMs use the same data directory, meaning that all your user data, apps, and settings will be shared between them. With other multi-ROM tools, user data is not synchronized, which is annoying, to say the least. With SWITCH however, the data is synced seamlessly, as Paul O’Brien shows us in the demo below.
MoDaCo.SWITCH is currently in beta. The tool can be installed via a custom recovery such as ClockworkMod, and once installed, it’s very simple to use, as you can see in the video. The current ROM package is based on the 2.24 ROM of the European HTC One and the ROM of the HTC One Google Play edition.
The biggest drawback of the current implementation is that users have to wait for the device to reboot in order to use a particular feature from one of the ROMs. O’Brien’s ultimate goal is to give users a quick and hassle-free way to use the features from both ROMs without rebooting the device. In this best of both worlds approach, stock Android users could use the IR blaster or Zoes without rebooting the phone.
Before you ask, Paul O’Brien said that he might work on the same functionality for the Galaxy S4, after he’s done with MoDaCo.SWITCH for the HTC One.
